I recently upgraded my version of DMB to 3.5.  When I open up my project I get several warnings.  I tried recompiling the project and then re inserting the source code but the menus disappeared from our intranet.  I retreived from backup but I would like to know what I was doing wrong.  How can I use my project (which was working with version 3.3) with the newer version?

Many users have been posting the same question and the answer is:

Option A
- Recompile the project (Tools->Compile)
- Update the loader code on all the required files (Tools->Install Loader Code)
If you're using some file sharing method make sure all your pages are properly refreshed with the new loader code.
- If you're using frames support update the frames loader code on all the required files (Tools->Install Frames Loader Code)
If you're using some file sharing method make sure all your pages are properly refreshed with the new loader code.

Option B
- Go to File->Project Properties->Configurations
- Re-set your remote configurations as the defauly one
- Recompile the project (Tools->Compile)

--------

Option A will upgrade your project to use the new relative configuration.

Option B will force DMB to run as previous versions did (using the local<->remote configuration system)

I shall try again and will let you know how it goes: thanks for your help.

Dear muttley37,

Please note that there's a DMB 3.5.001
Make sure this is the version you're using as we fixed a small bug that could affect users implementing the menus on some complex web sites, specially those using frames.
muttley37
Thanks for the warning Xavier: I checked and I do have the 3.5.001 version.

Hi Xavier,

The problem is that it seems that there are two 3.5.001. One released on June 16 and another one on June 19. Is there a difference? The "What's new?" section of your site refers to June 16 update.

Best, Fabien

When the "What's new" section is not updated means that the changes are usually related to the setup.

If the version you have was installed correctly then there's no need to download this new release.

When something important is changed in the program I change the version number and update the "What's New" section.

Thanks for the warning Xavier: I checked and I do have the 3.5.001 version.

The issue must be related to your loader code.
Did you upgrade the loader code?

Note that if you don't want to upgrade it you can always reset your remote configuration as the default one, recompile the project and the generated menus will work as they did in previous versions.
muttley37
No I didn't upgrade the loader code: how do I do this?
xfx
Easy,

Use the Tools->Install Loader Code option and click Install.

Again, remember that if you don't want to change/update your loader code you can always reset your remote configuration as the default one, recompile the project and the generated menus will work as they did in previous versions.
muttley37
OK: I just set the remote config to default and recompiled. The menus have stopped working again. Although I get the base menu: nothing spreads out from there. Its back to the backups again....
muttley37
OK after going back to where I was from a backup I tried again. Again I changed the default configuration to remote and again it has mucked up the menus.  The top level of the menu shows but nothing apart from that.  Am I doing something wrong here (can't see what as its such a simple change) or is there something wrong with version 3.5.  Is there somewhere I can get version 3.3 from as I am getting fed up with mucking around with this version.
xfx
Can you post a URL where your menus are located so I can test them?

Note that if the toolbar is showing but not the menus then the problem is with the frames loader code.
muttley37
Xavier,

Thanks for your help.  As we use our menus on an intranet rather than a public facing web server I will attach our menus file for you to have a look at.  Hope this is OK.
muttley37
Have you given up on me Xavier?  We are still stuck and unable to update our menus since the upgrade to the latest version.

On another topic I was looking at your FAQ and noticed the one about menus not going over applets.  This mentioned the "wmode=transparent" function fix.  I could not get this to work.  I did a bit of research on the subject and many people on the web are suggesting that applets are automatically placed on top of all other objects.  Is this true or is there another workaround to get the menus to expand over a java applet?
xfx
I'm sorry... I may have lost track of your issue.

--------

Before we do anything, tell me about the status of your intranet. Actually what I want to know is what loader code are you using: the new relative code from 3.5 or the old remote from previous versions?

--------

The WMode is a property that applies to the Flash plugin from Macromedia and it only works on IE/Windows.

Right now there's no way to place ANYTHING above a java applet.

Hello again Xavier,

I have indeed tried using the new loader code by first recompiling the project and then installing the new loader code.  When I did this the menus disappeared.  Should I have removed the old loader code first? Or perhaps I was adding the loader code to the wrong pages: I tried adding it to the folder holding all the html pages (and sub folders) so that would seem to be correct.  Then I tried your second suggestion of changing the default so that the menus would work in the same way as they did under version 3.3 (after first having recompiled again). This left the first stage of the menus on the site but no menus cascaded down from the titles of the various menus.

I take your point over the other issue I mentioned in my previous post: the link was interesting and useful.

You'll be delighted to know I have one extra query.  When I open the contents of the help I am presented with a run time error (-2147024726 automation error the resource is in use).  Is there any way round this?
xfx
hmmm...

I think that we should try something else.
Why don't you ZIP your work (a couple of HTML pages plus your .dmb project) and post it here.

Then I'll do the implementation for you and I'll give you explicit step-by-step instruction on how I did it.

---------

Regarding the error with the Help Viewer...
This is the first time I see this error with this DMB component.

But, let's concentrate on your first issue first. For now, try accessing the documentation through the "START->Programs->DHTML Menu Builder->DHTML Menu Builder Help" link.
muttley37
Thanks Xavier.  I attached my dmb file in a previous post but I will attach some of our html files here for you.
muttley37
Here is another of the html files.
muttley37
And a last one.  BTW the dmb file is in the 4th posting down on the 2nd page of this thread.
xfx
How is your project supposed to work?

Is the toolbar placed on the right (main) frame or on the left (one)?

Just let me know as I have both implementations ready... so I will post the one that you were trying to implement.
muttley37
Its in the main frame Xavier.
xfx
Ok, unzip the attached file and then open the index.html file in your browser.

Let me know if this is what you were looking for.
muttley37
Bloody fantastic.  Xavier: you are the man!
