Are you running the setup while logged as the Administrator?

Try uninstalling it.
Then delete these files from your /system32/ directory:
smartbutton.ocx
smartsubclass.dll
Now reinstall DMB and before using it restart Windows.

I followed your instructions exactly. Still no luck. Same error.

Did you have DMB or is this the first time that you install it?
---------
I have received many, many, many similar reports with users trying to run DMB under Windows 2000 and all of them have fixed this problem by lowering the security settings on Windows 2000 to allow the proper installation and registration of OCX (ActiveX) controls.
---------
Have you perhaps tweaked your W2K to make it more secure?
Are you perhaps running some Antivirus software while installing DMB?

I've had DMB on the machine for a long time. I've installed numerous versions and all have worked fine. Even the 3.5.001 worked without issue. This is the only one I've had trouble with.
I don't have any antivirus software running while doing the install. All of my browser security settings allow everything and I have not modified any other security settings on my machine. Are there some in particular I should look at?
Thanks for your help.

Ok... it looks like after all the problem is not directly related to the SmartButton ActiveX control.
The class 0BE35204-8F91-11CE-9DE3-00AA004BB851 refers to the Standard Picture OLE control widely used by DHTML Menu Builder and which is provided by the operating system file oleaut32.dll
-------
Please try this:
Open a Command Prompt console: START->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt
Go to your c:\winnt\system32\ folder
Type this:
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
