I love the Program! At first it seemed useless to me, but after I tried it out, I see how awsome it really is!!
One suggestion though..
Add the Capability to search Multiple Hard Drives ( I have two in my system ) and CD Drives if there is a Disk in them, and it'd also be cool if it could search drives over a network. Just a little two cents of input from a customer!

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad that you're enjoying it.
------
Right now there's no support for removable media, such as CDROMs... but you can already extend the search to several folders on other drives and even folders on other computers from your LAN.
So, to add more folders, press the ScrollLock key to open KL's window.
Click on the menu icon (on the right side of KL's window) and select the Folders option.
KeyLaunch will display a list of all the folders it is setup to look on.
To add new folder simply drag and drop it from Windows Explorer over the "Selected Folders" list.

Aah!Thanks! That helps a lot. I've got a lot of cool ideas for KeyLaunch, but I doubt all of them are 'good' ideas, if you know what I mean. A program that can search things this fast and efficiently could go a long way.

Hey! But don't keep your ideas for yourself :D
There's no such thing as a bad idea... there're doable and not so doable ideas... that's all.

Well, First of all...
It would be nice to have more freedom over picking the Activation Keys. The few that are offered are ok, But being able to set them more freely would be a definite plus.
A Cool idea for KeyLaunch would be, if you make it support CD Drives ( Specifically CD-RW or DVD+RW ), have it make idexed databases of disks that it can search (Rather than the Disk itself) and be able to tell you what disk you had a file on, even if the disk isn't in the drive! Though that sounds pretty useless, when you start making a bunch of backup CD's and such, it would be VERY useful to have, at least, in my opinion.

I have developed a control for KeyLaunch that displays a keyboard from where you can select the key combination that you want to use... but, this is still a bit buggy so it is disabled by default. As soon as I think its working properly I will enable it.
-------
I think that your second suggestion should be part of a completely different program, because having to search through all the CD indexes every time you perform a search would definitely slow down the process.
I think there're some very good programs that already do this:
- Create an index of all the files on a CD-ROM
- Let you browse through the database to find a particular file
-------
Many users have requested this ability to search on removable media but I'm not sure if this should be implemented into KL.
Have you noticed how long it takes to Windows to determine if a floppy or a CD-ROM is on the drive?
For example, I have 2 CD-ROMs and one Floppy drive.
Enabling KL to search on these devices would slow down the search operation by about 3-5 seconds per device... just because KL would have to wait for Windows to determine if a drive is present or not.

When viewing search results, it sure would be nice if you could open the containing folder of the highlighted entry with a quick Ctrl+Enter.
The 2 second limit for entering the search term is a bit short sometimes when balancing a wireless keyboard on the arm of the lay-Z-boy searching for MP3s.
Keylaunch is so very versitile, but when I do a search, I've got a general idea of what I'm looking for. Why look through 2000+ MP3s when I'm looking for a program called 'Vegas' something? I think it would be great if there were several search profiles, 5 max perhaps, that I could set up to search different places and file types, and that I could assign a profile name to. I picture a row of up to 5 profile names, just under the titlebar, maybe with a cutsie icon, that each time I punch the scroll lock key, the next profile is selected. At the end of the list, Keylaunch could either close or jump back to the first profile. Escape would always close the window. Whatever profile was highlighted when search terms are entered are the parameters used to perform the search. So to select, say, the 3rd profile, which I've set up to search only photos, I'd bang the scoll lock 3 times and let rip with the search term.

Version 1.0 used the CTRL+ENTER option but this has been changed for the ALT key which displays a list of very useful options, which among them is the "Open Containing Folder".

You can customize the timeout value on the Preferences dialog.

The idea about the profiles is VERY good.
I will do some brainstorming and see how I can implement it.

I cannot adjust the timout slider to greater than 2 seconds. It's just too short at times.
I still would like the Ctrl-Enter. The Alt menu is great, but Alt-Down-Down-Enter just seems a clunky way to get where I want.
I need a way to get more path info out of the results list. When I do audio editing, I keep the originals in a folder like 'originals\subject\volume\datafile' and modified files in say 'working\subject\volume\datafile'. Of course KL shows both these files as 'volume\datafile', with no way to tell which is which. There is plenty of room for more path information. Even putting the path of the highlighted item in the titlebar would be OK. Mouseover paths wouldn't seem to make sense for a program called KeyLaunch, but it would beat having nothing.
Thanks for an outstanding product.

bandit,
I will release a new version in the next couple days.
This new version will let you CTRL+ENTER to open the containing folder for the selected file.
I will also add an option to let you see the partial path or the complete path of the searched documents.
This is a "lo-fi" version of our main content. To view the full version with more information, formatting and images, please
