Full Version: Invalid AddIn Error

I am continually getting the "Invalid AddIn" error on most of the Addins.

I choose File > Project Properties > Advanced Tab > AddIns pick any add in then try to compile and I get the following error:

Invalid AddIn

This project uses 'DHTML Pointer Menu' (or whatever addin I chose) but it cannot be compiled because it appears to be damaged or from an older version of DHTML Menu Builder

I've seen a few posts about this but never a solution. How can I resolve this or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Lisa

Post an example project where you have this error and let us know which add-in you wish to use

In this particular example, I am trying to use the roller effect and although I am not getting the AddIn Error message, I am not getting any rolling effect either.

I don't know how to add an attachment to this message board so the file can be downloaded from:

Any suggestions?

Unless I am also using this add-in incorrectly I think there may be a bug in it.
If as in your case you have buttons from a group when you mouse over the group the buttons do not roll out.
However if you go down one further level and have a sub group of buttons then they DO roll out as they should do. If Hywel looks at this he may be able to offer us both the solution if not send a ticket to Xavier from the programme using Help/ xFX Jumpstart on the Web/Support.
Sorry I could not be more help

The error that you are receiving indicates that the AddIn was developed for an older version of DHTML Menu Builder.

DHTML Menu Builder will not update the AddIns automatically because, most of the time, it can't... but you can give it a try. To try to update an AddIn click Tools->AddIn Editor and then click File->Save and then File->Exit

This simple process will force DHTML Menu Builder to try to update the AddIn so that is compatible with the version of DHTML Menu Builder that you are currently using. This, unfortunately, will not always work.

So, whenever you encounter this problem with an AddIn and the manual updating process mentioned above doesn't work, email me the AddIn and I'll try to upgrade it for you.

NOTE: The most popular AddIns, such as RollerEffect2, CollapsibleMenus, pShowMenus, etc... are distributed with DHTML Menu Builder and are always up-to-date.
So, if you are having problems with one of these AddIns then all you need to do is re-install DHTML Menu Builder (well, actually, download the latest version and install it over your current one). This will automatically overwrite the old AddIns with the new ones.

I've searched the forum and noticed that someone said to do the same thing. I tried it it didn't work.

I also thought it might have to do with older extensions/addins to I uninstalled DMB, deleted associated directories, reboot, and then reinstalled but still no luck. As I said this happens with new files created and if I try to use the effect on files that others have created. I even tried it with the one you created see post #21 here: http://software.xfx.net/uboards/forums/ind...=2538&st=20

Any other suggestions?

Dear Lisa,

ok... let's try something: go ahead and post all the AddIns that you are having problems with and I will try to update them for you.
Also, let me know the exact version of DHTML Menu Builder that you are using.

When trying to help Lisa yesterday I created a new toolbar from scratch using the latest version of the programme. As I mentioned the RollEffect2 AddIn did not work until I had created buttons in a sub-group and these worked perfectly. At the higher level it appears not to work. I also tried using the add-in with an existing toolbar that I have created and I got the same effect, it appears not to work until you get down to level 2. I have attached a copy of this file the addin has been applied to the Products toolbar

Xavier,

Now that I have uninstalled and reinstalled (being sure to delete directories before reinstalling), I am no longer getting the AddIn Error.

I am just having the problems with the RollerEffect2 not working.

Thanks,
Lisa

Dear Lisa and Jim,

Please try this:
- Unzip the attached file
- Copy the RollerEffect2.ext file in your "c:\program files\dhtml menu builder\addins\" folder
- Copy the tbcode.dat file in your "c:\program files\dhtml menu builder\rsc\" folder

Do you notice any improvements?

Xavier,

I'm getting an invalid archive error using WinZip...

Cannot open file: it does not apepar to be a valid archive.
xfx
hmmm... that's weird. I compressed it using Windows ZIP support. I also tried downloading it and it did uncompress without problems.

Anyway, here it is again, this time, compressed using WinRAR (in ZIP format).

Xavier,

I don't know what the problem was downloading the file. First time I tried it with IE and had the problem then I tried it with Mozilla and it worked fine.

Great news.... the RollerEffect2 is now working again.

Whatever you did apparently fixed it.

Thank you!

Lisa

P.S.

Does this mean my other AddIns will also have to be updated? I rarely use anything other than the RollerEffect so I'm not event sure if the others are working correctly.
xfx
I don't know yet Lisa...
I'm revising all the AddIns now to make sure they are all up-to-date.

So... I'll make sure the nest version (4.20.002) includes updated versions of all AddIns (well, not all of them but the most popular ones).

Xavier,

Out of curiosity is there any one place within the DMB site that shows "ALL" the addins available for download?

I know that if you go there the various posts in Boiling Room, or look at the Samples, or go through the "Callenge and win", you can find some of the addins but I was wondering if they are all listed in one place.

Thanks,
Lisa

Lisa,

No... there's no unified AddIns Download section on the web site.

Mainly, it is because I do not encourage the use of AddIns and I prefer that, if someone finds a solution to his/her problem and the solution involves the use of an AddIn then that's OK... but having an "AddIns Download Section" would allow users to download all the AddIns at once without first reading how they work and what exactly are they used for. This would cause confusion and more problems than anything else.
