I have just 'inherited' a site which has a menu built with this product.
It does fails with the 'Invalid Argument' error.
I encountered this while previewing with the collection of web browsers which I build to...

1. To what degree does XFX support legacy installations?
2. Do I implement your solution if at all practical.

I had the same problem and this solution solved it for me:

In my case I simply had to change the id of the div I was using to the prescribed name and that fixed IE 7&8...not sure about IE 6 yet.
