Nice Folders Tutorial - 1/2

This is a very basic documentation on how to get started in using Nice Folders.

So... to start changing those ugly yellow folders, select any folder of your preference.
It should be a good idea to create a folder just to play around until you feel comfortable with Nice Folders.

For example, create the folder
             C:\Testing

Now, right click over the Testing folder and look for a new option: 'Change Icon'.

Once you click on that option, Nice Folders will show up.

Nice Folder's interface is very clean and easy to understand.

  1. This is how your customized icon will look like
  2. This is a space for you to type a description of this folder. Then, when you pass your mouse over the folder, you'll see a tool tip with the description.
  3. This is only used when editing special folders, such as My Computer. In this spaces you can change the name of the icon.
  4. These are the layers. Each layer is like a transparency where you can put several icons which will overlap each other to create a composed icon, shown in (1).
  5. This is the list of icons available in the currently loaded icon library. By default, the shell32.dll library is loaded, since there is were the Windows yellow folders are located.
  6. This slider can be used to change the size of the selected layer
